As a Bar & Restaurant on the UNESCO World Heritage Jurassic Coast, we have always tried to place a great emphasis on being as ‘green’ as possible, making positive changes where possible and listening to customer feedback on how we can improve.

Local Suppliers

We are spoilt for choice with so many fantastic local suppliers, which means we are able to offer the best Westcountry and Dorset food and drink. We love using local produce wherever possible and take great care in sourcing the best local food and drink. There are numerous benefits to this including fresher and healthier ingredients, being more environmentally friendly, supporting the local economy and being able to offer seasonal dishes on our specials menu. We use a wide range of local suppliers, here are just some of them…

Recognition

In 2023, Martin’s Bar & Restaurant won our third Taste Of The West Award – a GOLD! The annual awards showcase the best food and drink producers in the westcountry and we’re proud to be recognized by them again. At the end of 2021, we were visited by Cask Marque, who sampled our local Palmer’s ale and judged us on how we store and serve beers, as well as scoring them on appearance, taste, aroma and temperature. We scored 100%, so can officially say we serve GREAT local beer! We were also delighted to win a Litter Free Coast and Sea Award in 2019 for helping to create a cleaner, greener environment with litter free beaches and water, by ‘implementing lots of great changes to the business to reduce the amount of litter and waste, as well as developing innovative ways of working to respond to the popular awakening over plastics.’

As a park, we also raise money for the Jurassic Coast Trust as one of their business partners and donate a whopping 20% of the total raised by the JCT’s 63 business partners. Thanks to the kind donations of our customers, we have raised almost £100,000 since 2008, which goes towards protecting the Jurassic Coast and engaging people with it so they can understand and enjoy the coastline. Highlands End Holiday Park was also the Gold Award Winner for the Dorset Holiday Park of The Year in 2019 and 2021/22

Green Team

In order to improve our sustainability and reduce our environmental impact while maintaining the highest level and quality of food and service, we have created a ‘Green Team’ to discuss, consider and implement ideas relating to energy, waste, water use, plastic use, the environment and conservation. Recent initiatives include introducing paper straws, offering free water bottle refills, introducing a nature trail, changing to more eco-friendly products and suppliers and supporting local businesses.

Other environmental initiatives around Martin’s Bar & Restaurant and Highlands End Holiday Park include planting wildflowers, creating bug hotels, encouraging recycling, using low-energy lighting with motion detectors, using water butts to collect rainwater, using air source heat pumps, solar water heaters and solar panels and using electric equipment and vehicles wherever possible.
